About Me
Hello! I’m Kristin Sweeney, a licensed therapist in Massachusetts with over 15 years of experience, practicing since 2008. I specialize in working with adults and teens navigating anxiety, stress, depression, trauma, emotional instability, relationship concerns, life transitions, sleep difficulties, and low self-esteem.
I earned my Master’s degree from Bridgewater State University and hold a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor I (LADC I) credential. I provide a compassionate and confidential space where clients feel heard, supported, and understood. Together, we focus on meaningful, lasting change that aligns with your goals and values.
My approach is strength-based and person-centered, and I tailor each session to meet your unique needs. I work collaboratively with clients and families to build insight, resilience, and effective coping strategies that support healing and personal growth. I draw from a range of evidence-based modalities, including EMDR, DBT, CBT, Motivational Interviewing, and other therapeutic approaches as appropriate.
I work with a range of insurance plans and offer out-of-network options. You can find full details about accepted insurance, fees, and policies on my Insurance & Fees page.
Individual Therapy: Modalities
EMDR is a therapy that helps people heal from distressing or traumatic experiences. It works by helping the brain reprocess difficult memories so they feel less overwhelming and no longer interfere with daily life. EMDR does not require you to go into detail about the event, and many people find it effective for trauma, anxiety, and negative self-beliefs.
DBT is a skills-based therapy that helps people manage intense emotions, improve relationships, and cope with distress in healthier ways. It emphasizes both acceptance and change, teaching skills such as mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. DBT is especially helpful for emotional overwhelm and difficulty managing reactions.
CBT focuses on the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It helps you identify unhelpful thinking patterns and develop healthier ways of responding to challenges. CBT is structured, practical, and goal-focused, making it helpful for anxiety, depression, stress, and everyday life difficulties.
